Should Airbnb Guests Clean Up After Themselves? WA
“Should Airbnb guests clean up after themselves? Airbnb cleaning is so expensive and we have to charge an Airbnb guests clean up fee. Is it our job to clean up after them or should Airbnb guests clean up before they leave?”
Angela Brown, The House Cleaning Guru gives cleaning advice and cleaning tips for these house cleaning FAQ.
The Airbnb cleaning business is booming right now. Because Airbnb guests want a vacation experience when they rent a room from you. And many don’t mind paying an Airbnb cleaning charge, but they don’t want to show up and do house cleaning. That’s what a maid service is for. #SavvyCleaner #AskaHouseCleaner #AngelaBrown

Angela, my apologies, I've figured out that I have accidentally deleted a comment on this video after I saw your reply. The comment was to the effect that as well intentioned as some renters may be I wouldn't leave it to chance that they'd leave the place the way the next guests would like to find it and would factor in cleaning costs as part of the price.
I did a stint cleaning holiday cottages. The guests had obviously made an attempt to clean up behind them but it still came nowhere near the level I'd expect to arrive to. The owner of the cottages was a woman I know well, and who has high standards. If cleaning fees deter others from renting I think finding used bedding, baths with ring mark grot, shat-up toilets and an oven that stinks the house out thanks to bizarre burnt stuff everywhere would be far worse for business.
I get that guests may not want to clean up after themselves. At the same Airbnb homes are Not hotels. It's more often sombodies home. If you go to Grandma's house for a visit, as guest, you are not going to leave her a mess right? Okay, you may argue that because you are paying to stay you can leave the place in whatever condition you like. My thought was that Airbnb offers a more personal place to stay which is above and eyond the value of a hotel. Having said this I don't think that the matter of guests cleaning or not cleaning is black and white. There's a lot of factors that are in play here. Some host require some cleaning; others may not require it at all. Some hosts charge a cleaning fee and some do not.
Thank you, I agree. I recently paid a $200 cleaning fee, and they wanted me to pay an extra $100 because the garbage pails were full, and we had too many garbage bags (8 small bags). Keep in mind, they knew they were hosting 6 adults and two children. They also said the bed sheets were "all over the place.". The sheets were all near the beds. Also, we moved a couple of furniture items (all within a few feet) for safety reasons. We loaded all the dishes and allowed it to wash, we wiped down all the tables, and we picked up all garbage. Should we have paid the $100? Thanks!
If they charge me a cleaning fee, I'm not cleaning anything. If they charge no fee, I will leave it clean. Simple.
